This is an anonymized reconstruction of real product work. The workflow UI, data, names, and examples are synthetic; the stated outcomes reflect the original programme.

The Prospect Journey was a responsive web application designed to digitize how prospective investors discovered The Family Office, explored investment opportunities, simulated portfolios, defined their investor profile and investment goals, completed eligibility assessment and progressed toward onboarding.

I worked as Product Owner across the experience, connecting the client-facing journey with Relationship Managers, the investment team, marketing, client services and supporting operational systems.

The challenge

This wasn't just an onboarding form.

Becoming a wealth-management client is a journey. Before committing capital, a prospective investor needs to understand the firm, explore investment opportunities, understand potential portfolio allocations, communicate investment objectives, establish an investor profile and progress through eligibility and onboarding.

The product challenge was therefore larger than digitizing a compliance form. We needed to connect a complete investor journey into a coherent digital experience.

The Problem

Moving a relationship-driven journey into a digital product.

Wealth management has traditionally relied heavily on human relationships. Prospective investors interact with Relationship Managers, receive information about investment opportunities, discuss their objectives, evaluate possible portfolio structures and progress through eligibility and onboarding.

The opportunity was not to eliminate that relationship. It was to digitize the parts of the journey where clients could explore, understand and progress independently — while keeping human support available where it added value.

How do we make a high-touch wealth-management journey more digital without turning it into an impersonal self-service funnel?

The result was a hybrid experience combining digital exploration with Relationship Manager support and operational workflows behind the scenes.

Product Strategy

Build progressively rather than digitize everything at once.

The Prospect Journey was delivered in stages. Rather than waiting for the complete investor lifecycle to be ready, the roadmap was phased to put useful digital capabilities in front of prospects earlier.

Phase 1

Discovery and exploration

The first phase focused on enabling new prospects to explore The Family Office digitally and begin constructing a potential investment portfolio.

Phase 2

Progress toward becoming a client

The next phase extended the journey through proposal, onboarding and compliance.

  • Viewing and editing the portfolio proposal
  • Client onboarding
  • Compliance and document completion

Progressive delivery reduced the need to wait for the entire investor lifecycle before putting useful digital capabilities in front of prospects.

Capability 01

Portfolio simulation before commitment.

Prospects could explore potential portfolio scenarios, allocations and projections before progressing further in the investment journey. This moved an important part of the investment conversation into the product — demonstrating value before asking for commitment.

Product thinking

Value before friction.

Don't start the relationship with paperwork. Give the prospect something useful to explore first.

The Prospect Journey allowed prospective investors to explore investment opportunities, investment content and portfolio simulations before progressing deeper into eligibility and onboarding. This created a journey where product value and education existed alongside the required investor information.

Capability 02

From simulation to personalized proposal.

Portfolio simulation was designed as more than an isolated tool. It connected into a structured path through investor profiling, investment goals, eligibility assessment and proposal creation — transforming an exploration experience into part of the conversion journey.

Capability 03

A controlled path into investment opportunities.

Not every investment opportunity was accessible without eligibility assessment. The journey combined rules-based automation with human review, allowing straightforward cases to progress digitally while routing exceptions for additional assessment.

The Hard Decision

Automate the straightforward path. Keep people in the exception path.

Situation

Eligibility assessment was necessary before prospects could progress into certain parts of the investment journey.

Product challenge

Requiring every prospect to go through a manual process would introduce operational dependency and unnecessary waiting. Fully automating every case would remove human review from cases requiring additional consideration.

Approach

The journey was designed to support automated progression where predefined eligibility conditions were met, while preserving human review for cases requiring additional assessment.

Product lesson

Automation did not need to mean removing people from the process. The better workflow automated cases that could progress deterministically while preserving human intervention for exceptions.

Capability 04

Private investment opportunity discovery.

Eligible prospects could discover and explore private-market investment opportunities through the digital experience. Investment opportunity information was maintained by the investment and marketing teams and surfaced through a structured discovery interface.

Capability 05

Education as part of the investor journey.

The product did not only surface investment opportunities. It also provided an insights experience — including articles, webinars, whitepapers, market updates and management views — helping prospects learn about markets, investments and The Family Office within the same digital environment.

  • Webinars
  • Whitepapers
  • Management views
  • Market updates
  • Quarterly reviews
Capability 06

Human support stayed inside the digital journey.

Digitization did not remove access to people. Prospects could reach support through messaging, help information and meeting scheduling at any point in the journey. Relationship Managers remained an integral part of the experience, particularly for prospects requiring manual assessment or personalized advisory.

Digital Hybrid Journey

The part users didn't see

Behind every client-facing step was an operating model.

The client-facing journey was supported by workflows spanning Product, Engineering, Relationship Management, Investment, Marketing and Operations. A change to any part of the digital experience could affect responsibilities, communications and processes across multiple teams.

Supported the broader operational processes connecting the digital journey to client management.

Product

Connected the customer journey, product requirements, system behavior, stakeholder needs and delivery priorities across all teams.

My Role

Product ownership across the experience.

As Product Owner for the Prospect Web App, I worked across the client-facing journey and the operational processes supporting it.

  • Translating business and user needs into product requirements
  • Defining user journeys
  • Managing and prioritizing the backlog
  • Writing and refining stories and acceptance criteria
  • Working with UX / design
  • Working closely with engineering
  • Coordinating requirements across business stakeholders
  • Supporting sprint planning and refinement
  • Supporting UAT and release readiness
  • Gathering feedback after release
  • Evolving the roadmap as the product matured

Example of hands-on product ownership

Portfolio simulation logic

The portfolio simulation experience depended on business logic owned by the investment domain. When that logic changed, I translated the change into product requirements, prioritized the update into the appropriate sprint and worked with engineering to deliver the implementation.

Domain logic→Product requirement→Prioritization→Engineering delivery

Content operations

Designing for a product that needed to stay current.

Investment opportunities and market insights were not static. The operating model required business teams to maintain content over time — including investment opportunities, educational articles and market insights.

Investment opportunity content required coordination between investment and marketing stakeholders to remain accurate and appropriately positioned for the investor audience.

Launching the interface was only part of the job. The product also needed an operating model that kept its content accurate and useful after launch.

Localized experience

Designed for the market it served.

The product supported English and Arabic experiences, requiring product and content workflows that accounted for multilingual investor communication across the GCC market.

What this project demonstrates

Six dimensions of product work.

Journey Design

Turning a complex wealth-management process into a coherent digital journey.

Product Strategy

Breaking a large transformation into progressive releases.

Regulated Product

Balancing digital experience with qualification and onboarding requirements.

Workflow Automation

Designing automated progression paths while preserving human review for cases requiring additional assessment.

Cross-Functional Leadership

Connecting product, engineering, investment, relationship management, marketing and operations.

Platform Thinking

Thinking beyond screens to the content, operational processes and team workflows required to run the experience.

Retrospective

What I'd explore if building it today.

With today's product and data capabilities, I would explore opportunities to make the journey more adaptive without weakening the human relationship or compliance controls.

  • 01

Clearer funnel instrumentation across each prospect stage.

  • 02

Stronger experimentation around activation and qualification friction.

  • 03

More personalized educational content based on investor intent.

  • 04

Improved visibility into where prospects require human assistance.

  • 05

Better operational analytics for cases routed to human review.

  • 06

More explicit measurement of time-to-progress between journey stages.

Key product lesson

Digitization doesn't mean removing the relationship.

The strongest lesson from the Prospect Journey was that wealth management did not need to choose between digital self-service and a high-touch client experience. The product could handle exploration, education, simulation and structured progression digitally while bringing Relationship Managers and operational teams into the journey when human expertise was valuable.

The goal wasn't to replace the relationship. It was to make the journey around that relationship work better.
